Challenge

Several years ago a department of a Fortune 100 company began using an Access database as a major tool in the management of it's inventory. Over the years, many adaptations were made to meet the needs of the department. As these needs grew, the application began causing problems because it lacked logic to maintain data integrity. Furthermore, lacked integration with major back-of-house systems which resulted in redundant manual data entry tasks.

Solution

Working hand in hand with key personnel in the department, Genesis Systems developed an entirely new web-based ASP.NET application to replace the Access database. This was accomplished on an aggressive time schedule where development was completed and the department was converted off of their old system within 120 days. The system was designed to integrate with three in-house systems and two third-party systems across the country. Today, because of the increase in workforce efficiency the client's department is more accurate than ever as a result of the system's fluid characteristics.

Challenge

An application developed to provide an online banking solution was gradually developed over several years. Because of the evolution of the application and the skill-set of the programmers, a handful of different programming languages had been combined in the overall program solution. As the system continued to evolve and other systems were being developed that needed to integrate with it, it became apparent that the application was the root cause of further integrated developments taking longer to implement which lead to higher development costs as well. Furthermore, the system ran much slower than what is acceptable for web-based solution in today’s fast paced web culture.

Working with the client on a tight budget, Genesis Systems rewrote the online banking solution using the latest in web technology and database security. Although applications in this realm are continually in development to satisfy consumer needs, the initial rewrite of the core application was completed by the Genesis team in less than 2 months. The application is now more robust and secure than ever and is more malleable for future enhancements.

Challenge

An organization with 9 locations in 6 Midwestern cities needed each location’s individual network managed and kept secure, as well as server and application support and implementation. In addition, this organization has gradually migrated from a straight terminal environment to Windows based workstations at almost all worker positions. This change led to numerous issues regarding internet access, users modifying the workstations settings, and loading on of unapproved software. Depending on the Windows version, managing this ranged from impossible to completely manageable. Having an IT staff at each location or even per city was not fiscally advantageous.

Solution

By first implementing a single entry point for users and management to open a trouble ticket, open issue elapsed time was greatly reduced. Next, by upgrading workstation operating systems, a locking down effect was implemented to largely curb user interference. Firewalls and VPN connections allow management of workstation internet connectivity as well as the ability to manage each location’s network from afar. Genesis Systems maintains the legacy Unix-based application, and also provides the on-site support for conversion to a new Windows-based system. The solution has saved the organization both headaches and dollars.
